I'm sure there are a number of Republicans who would have been an excellent choice to run with Gov. Romney for Vice President, but the choice of Paul Ryan was brilliant! He is young, earnest, articulate, extremely well-versed, respectful, yet bold in describing what America has been and can be once again if we will but return to the principles and values that made this nation great and good.

The fact that he is the only politician who has been willing to take on entitlement reform head on might in some circles be seen as a liability -- but I believe a great majority of Americans in their hearts will be grateful that someone has finally had the courage to speak up, willing to take the slings and arrows from so many who are either poorly informed, or willingly demagogic about where we are headed if serious reform is not undertaken quickly.

The misnamed and illegitimate “Affordable Care Act” –- ObamaCare -– is anything but affordable, and is anathema to the concept of limited government, of individual and states rights and sovereignty outlined by our Constitution generally (and reinforced by the 10th amendment specifically). While Gov. Romney has wisely pledged to repeal and replace ObamaCare on day one of his presidency should he be elected, his support of "RomneyCare" in Massachusetts dilutes his moral authority somewhat on this issue.

Paul Ryan has no such history, politically or personally, and is well-equipped to take on the dishonest propaganda that has been used by the left to prop up and promote ObamaCare. In Paul Ryan we have perhaps one last opportunity to make a serious move towards rebuilding the foundations that made America great, one last opportunity to elect to national leadership someone who has lived and is living and actively promoting the lifestyle and values of middle America, an America that is maligned and derided and mocked by the minority of Americans who are in positions of prominence today in America -- academia, the mainstream media, the entertainment industry, and much of the Washington political establishment.

Ryan does represent and, I believe, speak for, the still relatively “silent majority ” of Americans -- Americans who believe in a limited role for government, the importance of working hard, of taking personal responsibility for our lives and decisions, who want to see equal opportunity alive in our land, but who understand in their bones the historic failure and immorality of attempting to force an equality of outcomes.  These Americans are not embarrassed by their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness -- nor are they ashamed of their right to bear arms, and their right to worship God as they see fit -– they do not see themselves as “bitter clingers ” (as President Obama has characterized them), but rather as “average, decent Americans”.

I believe, perhaps naïvely (but likely not) that America is ready for a man like Paul Ryan to be involved in confronting the great challenges that are now before us; challenges that to a large degree were unnecessary, and were certainly aggravated by an ideology infused and animated by a socialist "one-world-government" mindset.

Americans who came before us faced their own difficult challenges, challenges every bit as great as we face today, and worse -- and they persevered and overcame.  Paul Ryan is a part of the majority of Americans who are not afraid of the truth, not afraid to face the great challenges of our times -- boldly, reasonably, determinedly, and with an optimism that is quintessentially American.

George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan would understand a man like Paul Ryan. Thank you, Governor Romney, for giving us the opportunity to support this vision for the restoration of a great and good America!

God bless America!
